Gershwin & Passenier:

An American in Paris & Fight for Light

Soloists Kari Ikonen and Vincent Houdijk

VU-Orkest presents the world premiere of composer Jesse Passenier, winner of the Rogier van Otterloo Award (2017). In Fight for Light, in which elements of classical and jazz merge in an orchestral context, he explores the boundaries of the solo concert tradition with concertos for piano and percussion.

Gershwin’s An American in Paris will also be performed, in which Gershwin has incorporated his own experiences as an American in Paris into a symphonic poem. With taxi horns and many influences from jazz, an energetic picture of the French capital is painted through the eyes of a pedestrian.

May 24 | Theater aan het Vrijthof, Maastricht

May 29 | Heuvellaan, Hilversum
