Daan Admiraal studied oboe at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he graduated with many honors. He has played as a substitute in the Concertgebouw orchestra and other major Dutch orchestras, and as solo hoboist with the Gelders Orkest. Before he became the conductor of the VU-Orkest, he performed with it as soloist. He studied conducting with Louis Stotijn at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. Daan Admiraal has been the conductor of the VU-Orkest since 1975, besides which he conducts two additional student orchestras. All three of these amateur orchestras are held in high regard in the Netherlands. Daan Admiraal performs as a guest conductor with well known Dutch professional orchestras. He is connected as a teacher of conducting to the conservatories of Hilversum and Rotterdam.
